Jan the 16th Replaced bulb in the outside light.

I am VERY broken today, every movement hurts. Because of this I decided on a simple job with no
bending or lifting. Replacing the outside light's bulb. Perhaps too simple? well It needed a screw driver because of the water proof housing so it counts for the challenge.
Things that made this job easy.
Having a screw driver with multiple heads in an easy to reach tool bag.

Having 2 spare bulbs, one with a bayonet and one Edison screw.  Thus I knew once I'd opened the housing I'd have a bulb in there in no time. I think it shows it's worth having a selection of bulbs in the house with different threads so that blown bulb replacement doesn't keep getting put off.

Jan 15th -Fixed the guillotine.

Inge and I are making origami cranes for the wedding. TO do this we need to cut a whole load of paper into the correct sized squares. We've made 500 or so and have 500 to go but our guillotine became unsafe to use. It isn't a rotary one, but one with a blade you pull down to cut with. The blade had become lose and so started just falling down at any point risking cutting hands and fingers, not a good thing for a magician. It took a few days to get round to fixing as I didn't know where my adjustable spanner was. (one reason for this blog is to work out just WHAT I need to keep in a small tool kit indoors). Took about 2 minutes to fix once I got all the bits together.

Bringing my jobs up to date

New years day - 7th

Fixed the inlet in the cistern in the downstairs toilet. Can finally use it again after a month.

Moved some pipes in the garden that were making an anoying sound in the wind.

Made little fuzzy blankets for our new kittens

Kitten proofed the sofa (stabled fabric in a gap underneath so they Couldn't get inside it)

8th of Jan. Extended the power cord of the microwave so it will fit back on the old wall mounting brackets. Put the wall brackets back and put the microwave on them.

9th of Jan Fixed an old desk light my parents gave me (replaced the lamp housing). Not an amazingly important job, but it felt good fixing something electrical again.

10th of Jan Panel pinned the back of a bookcase on, to give it stability and to look nice.

11th of Jan  A BIGGY. Fixed the cold water feed into the hot water system (replaced a ball cock just like in a toilet cistern). I've been putting this off for MONTHS. it was trickier than it could have been because of the zero clearance between the water tank and the roof, so I had to work in an awkward position and working mainly by touch. This was why was was putting it off, also the only down side of the tank over flowing was water went out of the over flow. I was worried that this water may seep into the wall as the water run back on the outside of the pipe. TO prevent this the water to the attic was often switched off. The result, the job wasn't an emergency, there was just the inconvenience of turning the tap on and off to feed the tank. This because a HUGE point of stress. I'd worry I left the tank over flowing when I'd gone out for the day, and worried that THIS time the wind would push the
overflowing water back into the house. I had no idea how much this was weighing on me until I fixed the tank and stopped worrying!

12th of Jan. A little trashed after working in the loft. Today's task was simple, but VERY necessary. Mounted our new super Dyson onto the wall. If you're going to have a few hundred pounds work of kit it's nice having it up out of the way, charging and somewhere where it wont get damaged.

13th of Jan . Put Christmas tree and printer and dyson boxes up in the attic (and checked don my repair, no sign of leakage at all)

14th of Jan. Went to library and got a replacement "green " recycle box for tins, cans and bottles.

In the begining

This idea came about after a good friend realised he'd done something productive every day since new years day. I realised that I'd done quite a few odd jobs in that time as well and this got me thinking. I'd just come home from Wales where my parents and brothers have beautiful homes. Mine isn't quite so, and it could be easy to blame this on lack of resources and lack of having a family of builders near by. I'd also realised I was beginning to slip into depression and wanted to something to stop this. Thus this challenge to myself. I'm hoping by breaking down the huge task of "Sorting Life Out" into smaller bite sized chunks the who project wont seem so overwhelming. I'm also hoping the activity and seance of accomplishment will help my mental health, and lead to more stuff being done (there's nothing like DOING stuff to make you want to DO stuff). So a better home and a happier Dean, good things.

The rules:
Does not include standard maintenance I should be doing anyway, such as "dishes" or "cleaning" However bigger things like "flea treating the house" do count as it's a job I could be tempted to put off for a while.

The job doesn't have to be big, just something that helps make the home, or life tidier or more organized.

Help people try to do their one thing a day if I can.
I'll have to post a catch up post above :)
